About Us
The cattery was opened in the late nineties. Peter and I bought the cattery in 2015 not knowing what we are letting ourselves in for. The cats have brought us joy, happiness, and untold laughs at their antics. We have shared hugs and tears when a loved cat is no longer with us, and nothing brings more joy when an old friend arrives with a new cat or kitten.
Some we meet once and others are regular visitors, each with their own uniqueness.
8 years and 600 plus cats later we still look forward to the days when new residents book in.
We live on site and there is always time during the day to pick a bit of fresh catnip or have a chat as we go pass the cattery during their resting hours.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you are welcome to visit during our opening hours. It is a great opportunity to ask questions and discuss your cat’s needs.
We suggest that you make your reservation as soon as your travel plans are confirmed. We get booked out very early for the Christmas and New Year period as many of our regular clients book a year in advance. We require a 30% non-refundable deposit for all reservations made between the 15th of December and the 15th of January.
No, our guests all have their own individual accommodation. We have 3 family units that is always in high demand and one unit that can be adapted for a convalescing cat.
Please let us know this requirement at the time of your booking. We can place them next to each other with the interleading gate closed at feeding time.
Yes, we can cater to your cat’s mobility needs and special requirements. Please discuss this with us in advance of their boarding stay.
Yes, we can give medication when necessary. Please provide clear instructions and let us know prior to the arrival date. We unfortunately do not cater for insulin injections. There is no extra charge for administering medication.
For the safety of all our visitors it is an absolute necessity that your cat is up to date with all appropriate vaccinations. It is the owner’s responsibility to provide us with this information. We need to site the certification on the day of admission or, if it is easier the first page with your cat’s details and the page with the current vaccination date can be e-mailed to info@katikats.co.nz prior to arrival.
We will be unable to accommodate your cat without the necessary vaccination certificate in the main cattery. We strongly suggest that you confirm your cat’s vaccination status is up to date at the time of doing the booking and then placing the certificate in the cat carrier. If you have misplaced the vaccination booklet an e-mailed confirmation from your vet confirming their status will be accepted. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
Yes, we live on the property, and we are frequently in the cattery after business hours.
For cats to be happy and settled they need a consistent routine and as they are our priority they deserve to rest and relax without constant interruptions that can cause anxiety and unhappiness. As cattery owners we also require time to maintain the property, admin work and normal day to day tasks.
We understand that when travelling from another area during a move etc the timing might not always be suitable. Please contact us to arrange for an appointment. We will certainly work to accommodate a request but it is not always possible.
We will attempt to contact you, or your emergency contact provided immediately. Your own vet will be contacted first, but if for any reason we are unable to take your cat to your normal vet we will use our local veterinary services. All vet costs will be carried by the owner and to be settled either prior or at the time of collection.
We carry Royal Canin and a range of supermarket dry foods. RawPawz beef (no grain, preservatives, or additives), and a variety of tinned food.
If your cat is on vet prescribed food for health reasons, we strongly recommend that they stay on it to avoid digestive upsets etc. Please clearly mark your cat’s food with their name and supply written instructions if you follow a specific regime. We use our own water bowls and feeding dishes. There is no discount if you bring your own food.
We provide a base blanket and a very comfortable igloo for your cat. For our senior cats we provide a heating pod underneath the igloo during the colder months. You are welcome to bring your own bedding if you feel your cat will settle easier. It is all about them being comfortable. In the units with outside enclosed areas a chair and/or climbing ledge is provided. The cats love the outside spaces watching the birds and our normal activities. There is always time to stop and have a little chat.
If you have an anxious cat something that has your scent on might help them settle. A T-shirt or small item works best.
We provide toys, a scratch pad etc. in their unit.
You are welcome to bring a small toy from home. Please help us to make sure your pet goes home with everything you brought for them.
You are welcome to contact us via email or phone if you would like an update. When time permits, we post photos of our visitors on our Facebook page.
